(Page 1) CHAPTER 1: THE TITANS, THE VERDICT, AND THE STORY A Koldian man was aroused one night by a messenger. The Koldians were a fair-skinned race which sported pointed ears, golden hair and a generally beautiful countenance. However, over the last period of time, something seemed to have gotten into them, and slowly but surely their race was falling into wickedness. He soon after roused his wife after hearing what the messenger had to say. “What is it,” the wife asked, “are we finally clearing that thing out?” “Aye,” the husband replied, “I suppose we should inform the girl,” “So are you sure that that was the messenger,” said the wife, “it seems like Na-Na knows too well what she’s doing. It doesn’t seem right.” “Should the Nacrelooites and the Zabuturs decide to come against us, we will ensure that they pay.” The husband responded, “I will rouse Tera Kyla Zakatau.” Shortly after this, Tera the Koldian was roused. She was a short little girl sporting pointy ears sticking out from a mass of long, wavy gold hair. On her fair-skinned face were a pair of electric violet eyes, vivid eyebrows, a distinct nose, and a mouth that complemented her face insomuch that it made for a piercing glare. Her hands and feet were large for her size, but her proportions were Koldian style: not anything that a non-Mencuan person would expect. “Tera,” her father told her, “You have been summoned by order of the king of Koldia.” He sounded very grave, but Tera could see right through her father’s deception: he was happy. After all, since when had her father, or anyone in Koldia for that matter, cared about her? As far as she had remembered, no one in Koldia liked her, even though they had no reason to be this way. Tera was a kind girl who generally cared for everyone, but sometimes got blunt and stiff towards people being mean. “What does he want?” asked little Tera, confused at the matter. “I am no first-born.” Such were the customs that on a yearly basis the first-born of every Koldian family was taken to see the king. Tera was the 32nd child of 42 in her family. Though the average number of children for Koldia, (or the world of Mencu in general) was around 12 and15, it sometimes went far beyond that number, like in this case. “I am not sure my young daughter,” Her father replied, “But I don’t like the feeling of it either. It seems all too precise.” “Too precise,” Tera muttered under her breath, “something here is a set-up.” She stopped, and then looked at her father. “And, are you coming with me?” Tera asked, not knowing what her father meant. “I am afraid not,” Her father answered, “He said you are to come alone.”

Tera wandered alone through her home city of Terranea to the palace of the king and queen of Koldia. The moonlight illuminated every building she passed. When the guards in front saw her, they let her through without a word. The young girl was confused. Something amiss was going on, and she had suddenly realized it. However, she did not know what it was, so she let it aside for a while. As she entered through the enormous doors, she encountered the massive, exquisite interior of the palace. The floor was composed of black and white squares arranged like a checkerboard. They were so nicely polished that Tera’s warm, bare feet left little patches of vapor like a child with his nose pressed up against a cold window. After all, Koldians, along with many others in the world of Mencu, have never even heard of shoes. Tera looked up on the walls and beheld many intricate paintings depicting old wars of Koldia or great Koldian history. In the middle of one of the rooms was a large fountain. On the edge, it bore a plaque that read: In honor of Lyacs and Scayl, protectors of the nations, and special thanks to the Nauticas. If Tera had looked in each direction she had desired, she would have been 14 by the time she made it to the king. So a few minutes later, she found herself where she needed to be: in front of the king. He was sitting on a throne made of gold with glass tubes along the sides of it. Inside these tubes was a rainbow substance that Tera had only heard about, but she knew what it did: It had restorative properties and could make even the largest wound fully disappear. However, Tera’s mind was taken off this substance when the king spoke to her. “Tera Kyla Zakatau,” the king boomed, “You are hereby accused of brutal control of the lady Na-Na 1 year ago at the age of 6, making her ravage Koldia.” Tera looked outraged. She may only be 7 years old and have a reputation of being strong for her age, but she was too kindhearted to want to control someone, especially brutally. She did however, control one lady, but it had been her will, not Tera’s will. “Na-Na,” Tera exclaimed, wearing a look that gave the impression that she was in front of something smelly; “that’s really quite a stupid name…” Tera had this bad habit of being a smart-aleck, and it got her in trouble often, but this was not why everyone in Koldia hated her. “Silence!” the king roared, “Besides,” Tera defended, “She told me to, and it was not brutal!” but this and anything else she said all meant nothing to His Majesty. “You know the punishment for doing such a thing, don’t you?” The King replied; “Aye,” Tera lied through gritted teeth. “I get a free ride to the depths of Rorret, where all evil will break loose upon me, consume my flesh and burn my remains. It sounds like a plan, but I think I’ll let you go first. I hear you aren’t too fazed by big scary monsters” She knew what it really was, but since she was going to receive it anyway, she did not care any longer about being even remotely courteous.

“You are hereby banished from not just the city, but from the entire realm of Koldia,” Boomed the king somberly, “And if you ever come back you’ll have to learn to control those smart remarks.” As Tera left the palace, she began muttering under her breath about demented kings and corrupted tribes. “We’ll see who needs to control smart remarks,” She thought to herself. However, according to the verdict, Tera was allowed to stay one last night with her family, and the next morning, proud Tera, not wanting to be led out of the city, went by herself as the gates closed. Even though it was morning, it was as dark as night, since the sun’s light had been blocked out. The moon’s absence and the fact that it was slightly warmer were the only things that separated morning from night in Koldia these days. Before she could think of what to do on her first morning out of the city, she suddenly heard the sound of something freezing. She looked up just in time to see something white shoot across the sky. When it passed over her, something white and shiny fell right over top of Tera and hit her head, knocking her out. Tera collapsed to the ground. A new season had dawned upon Koldia, and that white figure in the sky had to be one of the Bringers of Winter. Why had she not dodged that shiny medallion that had hit her? Although she was unconscious, she was conscious in another world… Tera saw herself with the Clazmaric armies at her command, fighting side by side with the titans, the defenders of Mencu. She saw herself on a ship full of people she seemed to know, yet she had never seen them. Then she saw herself visiting these same people and places in the form of a spirit. She felt herself being shaken, but put that off. She was shaken again, and this time she woke up. When she did, she quickly put the medallion away, which was about 5 inches in diameter, and then looked at who had shaken her. A girl appearing to be of about 21 looked down at her. She wore a brilliant red tunic, golden bracelets and anklets, and had vivid red, flowing hair. She had a vivid face with lively eyes, fair skin, and looked perfectly clean, even down to her feet, which, like Tera’s, were also bare. She was not very much taller than Tera—she was about 3’ 3”, but you could tell she looked much older. Her ears were long and pointy, and pointed up at an angle instead of outward like the ears of most other Mencuans. On her right hand was a strange symbol that Tera recognized as one representing fire. Nevertheless, what really surprised her was that this girl somehow knew her name. “Tera Kyla Zakatau?” she asked, and Tera rubbed her eyes and sat up. “Aye, that’s me,” Tera replied, “So you are out of the city;” The red girl exclaimed, “You are very lucky.” “Why do you say that?” asked Tera indignantly. “Sure it may have been sub-par in there, but at least I had food and shelter.” “That city is going to be razed by the Zabuturs under order of Nacreloo. We had no choice; it was either let them destroy the city of Terranea, or the gods, the titans and me.”

“You?” exclaimed Tera, bewildered, “that seems like selfishness to me.” “Aye,” The girl answered, “but no, it is not selfishness. We had our reasons, which we will explain as you get older. Anyways, my name is Ginny, titan of fire. How’s that for an important person?” “Eh,” Tera shrugged, not being someone who usually cared about ‘important’ people, “I guess it might be. So, carry on.” “Anyhow, I shall protect you until you come of age.” For Koldians this was at the age of 21. “Just you?” asked Tera, seriously doubting that this Ginny character had the capabilities to keep Tera under control, since no one in Koldia could. “Well, Ginny replied, “me and my sisters. I have 8 other sisters and a brother.” “That’s nothing,” Tera said, laughing, “I come from a family of 42.” “So be it,” Declared Ginny; Tera stood up. “Just one more question: do you like to fight?” Instead of replying, Tera put her hands behind her back and swung her left foot back and forth. “Well…” she muttered, “Uhhh… sort of… a little… pretty much… without a doubt, I do.” “Grand, I like your style!” Ginny replied, “Come on, let’s stop standing around and go to my place. There you can meet the rest of the titans!” Ginny took Tera to a giant temple and led her inside. Inside there were the rest of the titans, just as Ginny had said: eight more young women and a young man. Each of the women looked identical to Ginny except that they were all different colors, and (as Tera would later find out) the symbols on their right hands were different. They all had the same unique golden bracelets and anklets as well. They were brown, black, green, purple, white, orange, yellow, blue, and Ginny was red. The young man was also yellow, and he had sleek gold hair that went down to his shoulders and the symbol on his right hand matched the one on the hand of the golden-haired woman. His ears were fully visible; they resembled Ginny’s, and he wore a tunic identical to the yellow woman. All of them were about 3’ 3”, as none of the inhabitants of Mencu ever got much taller than 4 feet, not even the creators themselves. “This is the house of the titans,” Ginny declared. “It is visible only to those who truly believe in it.” Behind her, the yellow young woman stepped up. She seemed like a leader over the rest of them, (but in essence, the titans were all one). “Here we shall explain to you what just happened.” She said. “but in order for you to fully understand, you must know about Maric, Akhet, Duket, Kemet, the origin of the Koldians, The Clazmars, Zabutur and the Zabuturs, Nacreloo: lady of darkness, and us, the titans.

(part of the creation story; AKA page 5)
It began with us. Ginny created the stars and sun, and set them on fire. Victory created the moon and the world of Mencu. Artemis assisted her and put earth and ground on the once rocky world. Since it was so barren, Aryka made the plant life, and Eryel put in the oceans and water. Luna was the bringer of winter, and made it cold on the moon and stopped the sun from consuming the world. Echo helped bring in autumn, just like Aryka brought forth spring. Echo also created the wind and the air, enabling Mencu to be able to support life. Kiya created lightning and energy and enabled creatures to move. Lyacs brought forth light, and with my help, we created the creatures of Mencu, and the Koldians and Maric, (the oldest of the 4 Clazmar brothers) first. The Koldians inhabited the northern lands of Mencu, and Maric and the Marics, as they were called, went east and underground. Then sadly enough, we created Zabutur. Story goes he wouldn’t have become evil if he had not met Nacreloo, lady of darkness.” “Did you create her?” Tera asked curiously, “Thankfully we did not.” The young woman replied, “No one is sure where she came from, but she lured Zabutur down a path none can return from. From there Zabutur and Nacreloo joined forces and moved south. There they made plans to overthrow Korzinia, the land of the Marics, and Koldia. We, the titans and the protectors of the world, were left with no choice.” “Hold on, “said Tera, “Are you sure you all created Zabutur? It doesn’t seem right. Zabutur is also immensely powerful from what I’ve heard.” “Aye, he is;” The titan answered, “but that’s the best we can recall. Living over 44000 recorded years and expecting to remember it all is quite impossible.” “So,” said Tera, “you’re only 44000 years old?” “No, we’re much older than that.” The titan replied, “That was just when the years began to be recorded.” “Anyways, why did Zabutur fall for Nacreloo’s schemes?” Tera asked, despite her doubts, “Zabutur, as you know, created his people, the Zabuturs.” The titan continued, “They were modeled after the titan Lyacs, except their clothes were almost always a grey color. Their hair was wild looking, but otherwise straight and shoulder-length. Their eyes were dark red, and on their right hands they bore a jagged ‘Z’: the symbol of Zabutur. Legend has it if they were ever to return to the good side this mark would disappear, for it is a corrupted mark of Zabutur. Although they once were not evil, they had violent tendencies, and were lacking in intelligence in most places. Military skills were not one of them. Nevertheless, they became so skilled that they figured they would overthrow the world, and so they became prideful. When Nacreloo came to him and said she could make it possible, Zabutur agreed to her terms: annihilate the Marics and the Koldians. Surprisingly, Nacreloo looked a lot like us only colored like Zabutur. It makes me wonder; I mean, we don’t ever remember creating Zabutur, rather, we seem to remember him and Nacreloo as our brother and sister.”

(the other half of the creation story... most of page 6)
“Really now,” Tera exclaimed, “that’s… unusual. Err, sorry for interrupting.” “To prevent us from interfering, a strange being claiming to be Nacreloo, took away our immortality, leaving us only immortal to age, which actually was our greatest strength. We would have gone to battle, but our roles and risks were not complete. Maric needed aid, so the true ‘Clazmars’ came into being. Being modeled after Maric, the first Clazmars were divided into 3 different types. They all had the short, stocky, and strong build, light red-brown skin, large hands and feet, and were about 3-3½ feet tall. They were similar to the Koldians except for their color and a few other features. The Clazmars had jagged ridges in two different places: on their wrists running about to their elbows, and on their backs of their ankles running to about the knee. Akhet’s were shades of blue, Kemet’s were shades of green and Duket’s were shades of red. Naturally, Akhet’s hair was blue, Kemet’s hair was green, and Duket’s hair was red. Their hair was all bizarre-looking and stuck out at every angle, and their feet were bare. The three gods, Akhet, Kemet, and Duket, in turn created their people and divided them into tribes by appearance. The ones Duket created were called Dukets, the ones created by Kemet were called Kemets, and the ones created by Akhet were called Akhets. It was then that the battle broke out. The Clazmars soon realized what Zabutur and Nacreloo had been doing during the Clazmars’ creation: They had been creating and marshalling an army of their own. Not far from here, the battle broke out, and here the Clazmars put their power to the test. They began cutting down the Zabuturs and actually were winning. Before the Zabuturs’ reinforcements could arrive, the Zabuturs had to retreat. The Clazmars gained control of the central land: North of Krogg, realm of the Zabuturs, west of Korzinia, south of Koldia, and east of Krippa, home of Nacreloo’s creations. There were so many of these that Nacreloo had to send most of them west of the central land, which the Clazmars named Krawvill. Anyway, after facing this grim defeat, Nacreloo warned all the Clazmars and Koldians that by the 9th age of the world, (each of which lasted around 4½ thousand years) they would know the true meanings of both death and fear, and she swore through the fiends of Rorret to drink to blood of Kemet. Duket and Akhet heard about this, and planned to guard Kemet with their own lives. Incidentally, no one knows what became of this legend, and Kemet never ended up needing protection. That is the story of the Gods.” “Is there more?” Tera asked, hanging on to every word with peculiar interest and a touch of doubt; (the Zabutur bit rather disturbed her) “Aye, there is.” The young woman replied, “There is the story of the family of Westfarthing and Lahka, and the prophecy of a certain Lucius Wilde. After the gods Akhet, Kemet, and Duket defeated the Zabuturs, they made cities and towns for their people. Though they originally started out as a “Tehka”, or a “Temek” or such (names for Akhet or Kemet cities, Duket has one was well) they all just became cities for all. After they did all this, they disappeared.”

(the rest of page 6 and page 7)
“What happened to them?” Tera asked, “That’s where the family of Westfarthing comes in.” she replied, “Here was the legend of the Akhet Ajun Westfarthing, born shortly after the departure of the gods. As he grew up, he wondered where the gods had left to, as he had heard a lot of talk of them and their location buzzing around. There was a dominant rumor that they had built a secret temple somewhere north-northwest Krawvill. However, as years passed, even this rumor began fading and people began to believe that there was no such temple. The family of Westfarthing however, did not doubt. In fact, the very temple you stand in is the same temple that Ajun Westfarthing V, a 5th generation member of the royal Clazmaric family discovered.” “So you mean…,” exclaimed Tera, “Aye,” the girl named Scayl replied, “4 generations after the first Ajun Westfarthing, it was discovered. It is, after all, perfectly visible to all those who truly believe. The first Ajun handed that rumor down from generation to generation. Inside this temple are things so mysterious that even we know not of. It was created primarily by Kemet and Maric, and many of the features were created by Akhet. This room and several other little finishing touches were put in by Duket.” “What is the purpose of this room?” asked Tera, looking around at it. It was made of a sandy type of stone, and the ceiling was about 50 feet high. In two corners were two staircases, one going up and one going down. Tera was unable to locate a light source, and therefore thought that the light was coming from the room itself. The answer to Tera’s question was given by the girl in black. “Simply put: it is for us.” She replied, “It does not really serve a purpose,” added the girl in brown; “Other than being between the outside and the other parts, so it’s kind of like our resting place.” “I like that.” Tera replied; “Now there’s only one thing I wonder about: You may be the titans, but what are your names? Which one of you are Victory, Artemis, Eryel, Echo, Luna, Kiya, Aryka, Scayl, and Lyacs?” “Aye!” exclaimed the girl in black, “We forgot to tell you!” “I am Scayl,” Said the girl that had told the story to Tera, “Victory is brown, Artemis is black, Eryel is blue, Echo is green, Luna is white, the orange one is Kiya, the purple one is Aryka, and you know the red one as Ginny.” “And what about that young man?” asked Tera, “Oh,” replied Ginny, “That’s Lyacs. He’s the only male among the titans, but he still looks up to his older sister Scayl.” “So, which of you is the oldest?” Tera asked. Ginny paused. “We’re not really sure, but Lyacs knows that he’s the youngest.” She answered, “He remembers getting his powers almost instantly after the rest of us. We have no beginning; life is nothing but an eternity of worlds gone by, worlds now, and worlds to come.” “So what happened to Zabutur?” Tera asked, changing the subject. “He died;” Ginny replied, “The Crest of Zabutur was taken from him. That was his very substance. If he gets it back, he will be able to cover the world in a third darkness, one that will even cover this 2nd darkness, which just darkened the sun. Rumor has it that the very crest of Zabutur is hidden in this temple.”

(part of page 8... to the end of chapter 1)
“So what of the family of Lahka,” Tera asked, “That family is honored because of a certain lady named Kada.” Lyacs replied, “She was the one who cut down Zabutur. Surprisingly though, and for reasons unknown, it also slightly weakened us. It was after Nacreloo’s departure that Kada heard the rumor of a Lucius Wilde. “This Lucius,” she said, “will be the one who unites the world’s perfect person with his or her homeland.” Kada, wanting to see this prophecy fulfilled, came to us requesting to live until then. She was granted this request, and is said to dwell in some of the abandoned Maric cities beneath Krawvill. After all, there was a time called the 7th age and the 8th age where Clazmars and Marics shared land. Then as Zabutur and Nacreloo began rising to power again about 4000 years ago, they slowly migrated back into their own lands. This commenced the 9th age, which is drawing near to a close. If you go to Upper Korzinia you will see remains of Clazmaric cities, and if you go to Lower Krawvill, you’ll find ruins of Maric cities.” “Is the prophecy of Kada going to be fulfilled soon?” Tera asked. “Is it going to be in these times—my times?” “Aye,” Lyacs responded, “It is the cause of this 2nd darkness. It is nearly that time. The darkness that Zabutur cast over Koldia was going to last 200 years. That was about 186 years ago. It is on our doorstep. You must be prepared to fight.” “Me?” exclaimed Tera, “Fight, when—who?” “You shall see in due time, Tera.” Lyacs replied, “You shall see.” “Could you teach me?” Tera asked, turning to the titans, “Aye,” Scayl replied, “We certainly can.”
